How much does a medical escort cost, and does Medicaid or Medicare pay for it?
We need someone to take my grandfather to a specialist and stay with him. How much does a medical escort usually cost in NYC, and will Medicaid or Medicare cover it?

At ProLife Home Care, a medical escort costs $32 an hour, or a flat $145–$250 for the whole visit, which covers pickup at home, staying through the appointment and the ride home. The flat price does not change if the clinic runs late. These are our private-pay rates as of October 2026; prices can change: https://prolifehc.com/medical-escort/
Medicaid and Medicare do not pay for a medical escort; it is a private-pay service. (Medicaid transportation, where approved, covers the ride, not a person who stays with the patient.) If your grandfather qualifies for Medicaid home care, the aide care at home is a separate service that Medicaid can cover.
The hourly rate suits a short appointment close to home; the flat price suits long specialist visits and procedures.
Book as soon as you have the date, ideally 48–72 hours ahead; shorter notice is possible when someone is available. Call (718) 232-2777.
